RAG QUILT AND SOFT RATTLE BLOCK........FOR NEWBORN

Flannel rag quilt, so soft!  I made a matching soft rattle block with 2 'handles' to make it easier for baby to hold.

It is a surprise, hope the parents like it!

Been Awhile...

I have not posted much lately.  For a few reasons.......too hot to sew and having health issues.

Would like to spread the word about a rare genetic disorder named Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

This is a connective tissue disorder with 6 major types...I have type 3 or Hyper mobility type.
Type 3 is thankfully the least fatal, however very painful.  I have dealt with painful joints since my late teens.  Always been hyper mobile (double jointed), knees that gave out anytime I went up or down stair and strange pain.

Eventually I was diagnosed with early on-set arthritis but no dr could tell my why.

In the last 5 years I have had 4 joint surgeries, 3 of them being joint replacements...both knees and one hip.

I have been so rheumatologists, primary care, neurologist etc and have been blown off by some of them with suggestions like "Just keep getting your joints replaced until you feel better".  Nice huh??

Finally, in January of this year I went to a pain specialist who took one look at my paperwork, asked me one question and was able to dx me with EDS!  What a relief it was, at first.

I still deal with daily pain, my cervical spine has severe arthritis, hearniated disc and is curving into a C shape.  Both elbows are painful and can lock up.  Hands are more than I can explain, so bad, left thumb is dislocated and because the joint is so damage there is nothing that can be done, I wear a brace.  Fingers are hyper extending and I will be wearing ring splints soon to keep them in the correct position.

HIps, knees, ankles & feet all affected.  I keep my patellas taped or they dislocate often.

So, not sure how much more sewing/quilting I will be doing in the future.  I am going to catch up on projects that are sitting in my UFO pile.  Then want to make some baby quilts for just-in-case grandchildren.

I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to follow this blog and comment!

Curtain Make-Over......

The first pic shows the original curtains - white tab style from Target.

I decided I needed something new in our bedroom.  So....a few weeks back I found quite a bit of fabric at a thrift store, and of course could not NOT buy it, thankfully one piece was perfect for this project.

Cut off the tabs and sewed this piece on, made it longer also.

I love it!

Young Living Oils - My Newest Pain Reliever......

Will try to keep this post a bit short....but I have to share with you all my newest find....YOUNG LIVING OILS.

Most oils that you buy in the stores are diluted in some sort of carrier making them unsafe to ingest or place directly on your skin.  These are not - they are 100% pure therapeutic grade oils that can be placed on the skin, ingested, cooked with, diffused etc.

A friend of mine has been using them for years and when she heard about how much pain I am in every day she came over with some of them and let me try them.

There is one recipe that takes just 5 drops of 3 different oils in a veggie cap, and it works better than my Rx for Tramadol!!  NO side effects either!

I ordered the starter kit which came with a diffuser and hubby and I are sleeping better than ever!  We diffuse lavender each night and I sleep so peacefully.  If my sinuses are acting up I had lemon and peppermint for natural relief from stuffiness.

I LOVE the fact that I can get relief from so many issues and not have to worry about side effects to my body.

Right now I am using coconut oil with 5 different oils, rubbing it on my poison ivy for itch relief and it works great!

I also love their toothpaste - nice clean feeling with no fluoride, preservatives or artificial anything.

If you are interested please comment below and I will get back to you.

YOUNG LIVING OILS Hack...........

I used one of the original boxes from my YOUNG LIVING OILS order.   I took a screwdriver, then a punch to make 5 holes to hold my veggie caps for filling.

So much easier than trying to hold and fill!

Paperless Paper Towls.......

I decided to go paperless as much as possible.  So here are my first 9 pretty 'paper' towels.  I can put snaps on them and roll them up like normal ones but I like the look of them in a old brass planter.

Some have terry cloth and some have flannel.  Could not have been easier to make so will definately be making more!

They work great too!

Rag Dolls.....A First......Can Only Get Better From Here

I wanted to learn how to make ragdolls and found a pattern on Pinterest.   Not the best pattern, def needed some tweaking.

These are the first 3 and they are going to 3 little ones that I know in one family.  One is a brunette the other a blond and the boy is a redhead.  I hope they like them and I look forward to making more.

My goal is to make some for the pediatric cancer patients at our local hospital.

Fund Raiser HOBO BAG.....

I made this ZEBRA bag for an Ehlers Danlos Fund Raiser/Silent Auction.

The reason for the zebras comes from the medical schools where med students are taught "if you hear hoofs think horses not zebras".  This means always look for the obvious.

That is why Ehlers Danlos is so often missed in diagnoses.  Took me 54 years to get my dx!

I hope it does well and helps to raise money for the young girl dealing with this and other 'invisible diseases'

Not A Project....But A Good Idea

I made smoothies once or twice a day and with achy wrists it can be hard to screw and unscrew 6 jars....so I used an egg carton to get my dry ingredients mixed and ready for 6-12 smoothies!
