Another 5 Point Star in Selveges....

I know the pic is a bit blurry...will take another shot tomorrow.
Anyway, I just had to make another one in selveges for my wall hanging.  This was much harder since selveges can't be stretched in order to ease in!!  Still looks pretty good and will look even better with a border that will hide some of the wrinkles.

Quilt Class # 8...

...5 Point Star.  I love it!! I thought it was be so hard with all the Y seams and setting in, but is was fairly easy!  It did come out a tad shorter than the 12 1/2 it was supposed to be, but no problem since I am bordering it to make it 15 1/2.

I definately want to make more of these blocks in different colors.  Would be a great kids quilt too!

Selvege Block # 3.....

Even though I don't like it anywhere as much as the first two, I will still keep it.  I think once in the wall hanging it will look good.

Certainly went together quickly,  The only hard part is keeping the selveges straight and as you can tell they are a bit crooked.  Oh well, character!

As of today, I have changed my mind and won't be keeping this one as is.  I will either take it completely apart and redo it or remove it.  I think the selvege part is just too small and I don't like the pattern of it.  That is okay, since the seam ripper and I are best friends!!

Here is the makeover.  Still not my favorite but better than the original!

Selvege Block # 2.....

This is the second block for my Selvage Sampler Wall Hanging.  I really like it and it was so quick to make!  I cut four 4 1/2 inch blocks out of the brown calico.  The used dark green, brown, black and dark blue selvages to make the design.

Not sure what the next block will be.....any suggestions?

Not a quilting post but......

.....a recipe post!  I am trying to eat healthier these days, not that I was eating badly, just trying to redo some favorite recipes.  I have been inspired by this blog: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/.
So I wanted to share something I made yesterday that was soooo good!

1 1/2 medium sized frozen bananas
1 very ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
1 cup milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 squirt agave nectar

Put all ingredients into a blend and blend till smooth.  It was so good and healthy! Also super thick as you can see by the pic, the straw stands up straight!

I have heard that avocodos are excellent for your joints and since I have quite a bit of arthritis I figured I would start eating more of them. Love them as oven fries also!!!!

Pinwheel Quilt.....

Bright enough?!?!   I am going to rename this one Circus Quilt because of the colors and brightness of it.

As you can see the border is unfinished.  I used the eight different fabrics in the pinwheels to create a border, it still needs to be evened off, using scraps I did not want to take the time to cut each one before stitching together.  I will do that when I have the batting and backing ready to pin all together.  I think the backing will be yellow flannel.

Nothing Stays the Same.......

...and that includes quilt plans!  I was playing around with my 4 1/2 inch squares trying different layouts for the original quilt I had planned, but I just could not come up with a pattern I liked.

So I did some more playing around and decided on bright colored pinwheels against a black background.  I think this will be all that I will make.  Not sure yet if they will be sewn together or if I will place a black strip in between.

The background will be black also with a bright colored pieced border.  Of course as my title says, that may change also!!

A Quilter Can Never Go Too Long..........

......in between making quilt tops!!!  I finished one yesterday (or was it the day before??) and had to come up with another project.  Thankfully my obsession with Pinterest gets my creative juices flowing by just browing through all the quilts that are pinned.

This is the fabric I will be using for my next small quilt.  I can't wait to start it.

New Quilt Top......Revised....

So I fixed the triangle that was incorrect, as you can see on the left it is now orange.
I also decided to make it a bit bigger and added a green border.
Now I am happy!!  Just need to decide on what to use for the backing.

Love this....part of my Mothers Day present

New Quilt Top......

This was made from strips that were given to me.  Lots and lots of strips so I can make plenty more!

Anyway this is a 'future' grand baby quilt.  I do have to take it apart a bit though.  On the left side the orange points were supposed to come together to form a triangle and I did not realize I had sewn the wrong sides until I took the picture...sigh...my usual form of messing up!!

I would leave it except that I really wanted 4 different triangles and I already have the green/white one on the bottom.

Otherwise I really like the way it came out and it was quick and easy!

The thing about quilting is.......OR Selvege Block # 1....

...there is always an idea floating around inside the quilters head!!  I have decided to make a quilt using lots of selveges.  In browsing around looking at other selvege quilts I saw so many good ideas that I decided to make a sampler-type.

This is my first block, using selveges as the thread.  I think is it pretty cute even though it is not perfect!  Why do pictures always emphasize the tiniest of errors???  I know it does not look crooked when seen by the naked eye, but in the pics - wow does it ever!

Guest Room....finally finished for good!

Since the room is only 10 x 10 its hard to get a good pic.  However I am in love with this room now!! So peaceful and simple.  Makes me want to redo every room in my home and simplify it.

Guest room.....

So you can disregard all previous pics of the new guest room.  We spent the day at IKEA on Saturday (just love that store!!) and bought a new bed for the room.  Of course that means a new arrangement also!

Will be posting pics on Wednesday of the completed room.  I can't wait to have overnight company!

Quilt Class Block # 7...

So....true to form I mess up the easy ones and do better with the harder blocks!  This one was supposed to be easy, however I had to miss the class and only had the written instructions.  When I cut the spool ends I cut from the short side of the fabric instead of the long resulting in tiny spools with large blocks of 'thread'.

I have learned that to be a true quilter you have to learn to rework what does not work!  I cut the thread down smaller and used the extra pieces to make a scrappy border.  Then I used the fabric that was supposed to be the barn from last month as the second border.  The final border is the same fabric I am using on all the 12 inch blocks to bring them to 15 inches. This way there will be some continuity in the final quilt.

I happen to love it, although it is a bit southwestern, but the southwest is part of America and the class is Americana so I guess its all good!

PIllow from clothes cut off and shredded.......

So I mentioned in one of my last posts that I had been down with my son in Atlanta.   I was there because he was biking to school, in a crosswalk, and got hit by a car.  He will be fine in a few weeks, he has a fractured hip.  Praise the Lord that is all that happened!!

Anyway at the hospital they cut his clothes off him and pretty well shredded them in the process (not important!!).  I decided to use what I could to make him a pillow that would remind him to be extra careful in the future.  The pics make it look off, but it really is square!!
